A Whitby Private Property Engagement Session | Katie + Cody

June 28, 2023

I drove out to Whitby for this private property engagement session with Katie and Cody at her parent’s place and it was such a special night. These two are so kind and soft-spoken but the way that they look at each other speaks volumes about their love. The light that we were blessed with at their session was just a bonus to being able to capture a little bit of their story! Add on the fact that Katie’s parents’ property is absolutely off-the-charts stunning and I was a happy photographer!

They (like so many other couples) dealt with postponements, restrictions and vendor changes throughout their wedding planning process, so this was the perfect way for them to forget about all of that and connect and enjoy some time together. I always encourage my couples to make their engagement session a date night. Wedding planning can be so stressful so this is the perfect way to be intentional about reconnecting with each other!

One of my favourite parts of this job is exploring new places that are special to my couples and connecting with them in an environment that is comfortable to them. Their wedding took place just over a month later at the beautiful Ancaster Mill, so the choice to have their engagement session captured at Katie’s parents private property in Whitby allowed them to also have photos captured somewhere that was local and special to them. Being photographed in a place that you feel safe makes all the difference, especially if you aren’t super comfortable in front of a camera.

Another way to help you feel more comfortable is to incorporate personal touches into your session. Katie and Cody did this by bringing their pup along, which immediately breaks the ice and always adds the funniest bloopers and cute moments!
